Departmental Focus

The Department of Psychology promotes the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to advance the health care of children with catastrophic illnesses through efforts in research, patient care, family-centered initiatives, student and staff training, and participation in extramural programs. The Department seeks to optimize the ability of children with catastrophic illnesses to achieve full health potential and the best possible quality of life by providing outstanding clinical care and by conducting innovative clinical investigation that leads to improved outcomes for patients and families.

Research in the Department is focused primarily in two major areas: Cognitive Neurosciences and Health Promotion.

Clinical services provided to St. Jude patients include consultation (first meeting with the psychologist to understand the problem), therapy/intervention (tools to improve the problem), and psychological and neuropsychological assessment.

The Department of Psychology also is involved in training future psychological researchers and clinicians.
