Telemedicine

Via the www.Cure4Kids.org website, the International Outreach Program provides online meeting rooms for medical groups working to improve childhood cancer care in low-income countries. These telemedicine meetings are used for teaching as well as for “real-time” discussion for clinical cases. These discussions not only help improve the care of individual patients but also promote the development of evidence-based and best practice treatment guidelines and protocols. International physicians often share a single computer and Internet connection at international sites in order to participate in these online telemedicine meetings. More than 200 regional and international medical groups meet regularly on Cure4Kids to discuss difficult childhood cancer and other catastrophic illness cases. This low-cost modality of telemedicine is provided free of charge by St. Jude to pediatric oncology and hematology programs in countries with limited resources around the world.
