AOL is making it easier for patients and families of St. Jude to stay connected. On November 17, St. Jude patients and their families gathered in the Chili’s Care Center lobby to celebrate the unveiling of the new AOL Mobile Computer Lab. Jim Norton, head of AOL sales, and more than 20 AOL team members presented the 20 mobile laptop carts to St. Jude.

The mobile carts are known as the AOL Mobile Computer Lab and were donated to the St. Jude Child Life department. Each cart comes equipped with a new laptop on a cart designed to fit conveniently over hospital beds and wheelchairs, to provide an easy and convenient way for children and their families to stay in touch with family and friends while they are inpatient at St. Jude. The laptops are customized with a full suite of AOL products, including AOL Mail and AOL Instant Messenger.

To celebrate the official opening of the AOL Mobile Computer Lab, St. Jude patient Anthony Lawrence had the distinct honor of cutting the laptop-shaped cake with its smiling AOL rainbow display. After the celebration, AOL treated patients, family members and staff to a free screening of Puss in Boots, an animated adventure movie distributed by DreamWorks Pictures featuring the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Zach Galifianakis.

The donation of the AOL Mobile Computer Lab also helped to kick off AOL’s participation as a corporate partner in the 2011 St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign, an annual holiday awareness and fundraising campaign that brings together celebrities, media and more than 60 corporate partners to ask holiday shoppers to “Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not.”

Since 2007, AOL has contributed a total of $5.7 million to St. Jude through in-kind promotions and donated ads on the AOL network as well as donations from AOL users, AOL employees and company matching grants.
