St. Jude employees participated in the 2011 Diwali Celebration October 25 in the Danny Thomas Research Center Atrium. The interactive celebration allowed employees to learn more about the traditions and importance of the holiday. Activities included henna tattooing, bindi give-away, an informational video presentation and musical performances. In addition to the celebration, Indian cuisine was featured in the hospital’s cafeteria during the week of the event.

Diwali is a Hindu festival that is celebrated with enthusiasm and happiness in India. The festival is celebrated for five days, with the third day recognized as the main festival or “Festival of Lights.” On that day, people light diyas and candles in their homes. People who celebrate the holiday exchange gifts with family and friends.
