Zurich crafts new ways to give to St. Jude

Global insurance provider Zurich has been a corporate partner of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since 2002 and continues to show true devotion to the belief of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas that “no child should die in the dawn of life.”

To commemorate the company’s 100th anniversary in March, Zurich employees based in Omaha and Atlanta assembled more than 200 craft kits in support of the St. Jude Child Life Program. It was part of the company’s service project campaign “100 Ways that Zurich Gives Back.”

“In the middle of the night, a child may not be able to sleep as a repercussion of his chemo or radiation regimen and the parent may not know how to help the child,” explained Shawna Grissom, the Child Life director at St. Jude. “The craft kits can often come in handy for situations like these and help take a parent’s mind off the disease and give a child an opportunity to express himself creatively.”

In addition to the craft kits, Zurich generously donated $10,000 to St. Jude during their March visit to the St. Jude campus and to Target House, which accommodates families of patients receiving long-term care. Kathleen Savio, chief administrative officer for Zurich North America, spoke at the check presentation in the Child Life Department.

“We are consistently impressed with the work of St. Jude in aiding children and their families,” Savio said. “But today’s donation wouldn’t be possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of our employees. They really bring to life what community giving means at Zurich, which is something we’ve been committed to since we first arrived in America 100 years ago.”

The company has raised more than $1 million for St. Jude and Zurich’s dedication to St. Jude earned them the title of St. Jude Employee Giving Partner of the Year in 2011.
