The Quinlan family of Florida isn’t waiting until Thanksgiving Day to give thanks for their blessings. Family members will participate in the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. event on November 23 in Palm Beach County — one of 75 communities taking part in this noncompetitive 5K fundraiser for St. Jude.

Since the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. began in 2008, it has drawn thousands of walkers in communities nationwide and has raised $11 million for the kids of St. Jude. The walk is the official kick-off for the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign.

Nancy Quinlan describes the 5K fundraising event as a wonderful gathering of families and friends.

“The atmosphere on the day of the walk in Palm Beach County is so energizing,” she says. “Everyone I talk to after the walk is so happy they came.”

Nancy is chairing the Palm Beach County event this year but has participated every year out of gratitude for the good health her son, Brian, enjoys. Now age 13, Brian received treatment at St. Jude for leukemia when he was 4 and learned last December that he had passed the five-year cancer-free mark.

“It is amazing to participate in a St. Jude fundraiser after being a patient family at St. Jude,” says Nancy.

Team Brian T-shirts will feature photos of Brian at age 4 with Kicker, the therapy dog whom he loved so much as an active patient. Also pictured on the shirt is world-renowned St. Jude oncologist Ching-Hon Pui, MD, shown with Brian and his brother Brendan.

“We are so grateful for Brian’s good health, and we want to make sure that the hospital has everything we can contribute to help other children and families in the future,” says Nancy. “We can never pay back St. Jude for all the wonderful medical treatment Brian received and all the help and love extended to our entire family.”
