Old Navy joined St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the fight against cancer and other catastrophic diseases in 2010. The brand’s philanthropic spirit truly shined through in the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign, and Old Navy raised more than $1 million—a truly remarkable achievement.
This incredible success demonstrates how two like-minded companies can make a difference together. Both Old Navy and St. Jude care deeply about children and families in every community and understand the meaning of the word “partnership.”
With only a few months of planning, Old Navy and St. Jude teamed up to develop the tremendously successful 2010 holiday gift card program. A generous 5 percent of all gift card sales went to St. Jude. Two of these gift cards featured patient artwork, helping to share the story of the hospital's patients.
Old Navy also invited St. Jude to be a part of their 2010 “Awkward Holiday Photo Mobile” promotion, giving families props and costumes to capture the quintessential awkward holiday photo that they could share online via Facebook, email or Twitter. All guests received special Old Navy holiday discounts and were asked to make a donation to St. Jude, raising more than $11,000 in incremental revenue.
Thanks to Old Navy’s generosity, St. Jude is able to bring an element of fun to patient families despite their unimaginable battles and circumstances. St. Jude employees believe that simple actions such as helping a boy in the ICU make a birthday bag for his sister, sending a patient to summer camp or awarding them with “Captain Cooperation” capes during treatments can help lift a child’s spirits and restore a family’s sense of hope.
In 2011, Old Navy continued the gift card program, donating $250,000 and added an add-on opportunity to give customers the chance to contribute as well, demonstrating the brand’s support for St. Jude patients and families.
St. Jude founder Danny Thomas once said, “Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.” St. Jude is grateful for Old Navy’s selfless dedication, compassion and shared commitment to families.
