Sterling Jewelers Inc., parent company of Kay Jewelers and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry, has been a passionate supporter of Danny Thomas’s vision for more than a decade. Since Sterling became a St. Jude partner in 1999, customers and employees across the country have donated more than $35.5 million to support the children and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Sterling has fostered a deep commitment to St. Jude that is ingrained in the company’s culture from the executive level down.
After selecting St. Jude as its national charity in 1999, Sterling continues to raise the bar as a true leader in both giving and passion. The Sterling and St. Jude Partnership in Caring has grown from the original plush campaign to include employee and corporate giving and a variety of product promotions.
In 2010, Sterling launched its first register add-on program, providing another successful outlet to raise funds and awareness for St. Jude. Additionally, Sterling’s signature plush items set a new record in 2012 with more than 575,000 sold, helping bring Sterling’s annual giving to $4.8 million—a staggering accomplishment.
Thanks to collaborative hard work and focus, Sterling completed its commitment to fund the hospital's Kay Kafe in 2010, an incredible two years ahead of schedule.
This milestone was followed by a new commitment as the lead sponsor of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital – Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project. This $20 million endeavor is the only project of this size and scope focused on pediatric cancer, and offers great promise for developing powerful new approaches to diagnose and treat cancer or perhaps even prevent it. Richard C. Shadyac Jr., chief executive officer for ALSAC, said that, “Kay Jewelers’ support for this groundbreaking project speaks volumes about the company’s strong values, dedication to excellence, and commitment to charitable giving.
In 2011, Sterling continued the popular plush program, adding a St. Jude bead in Kay Jewelers innovative Charmed Memories® collection. In 2012, Sterling continued their plush campaign and expanded their Charmed Memories collection product promotion from two stores to all Sterling locations, including the sales of St. Jude beads. Sterling also committed an additional $100,000 corporate donation through a Facebook “Like” campaign for both Kay and Jared brands. For every “Like” Sterling received during the Fall period, they donated $1 to St. Jude.
