Country music stars and radio personalities gather for 2002 Country Cares for St. Jude Kids seminar
Some of country music's biggest names and fastest-rising stars are joining forces with representatives from more than 190 country radio stations for the 13th annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids seminar sponsored by United Service Association For Health Care. The second-largest gathering of country music industry professionals in the nation will kick-off the busiest season of radiothons to benefit the children of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Lonestar, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, SheDaisy, Mark McGuinn and Randy Owen of the Grammy® Award-winning group ALABAMA are among the country music superstars who will tour the internationally renowned St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and visit with some of the 4,000 children who are treated there each year for life-threatening diseases. Over the course of the weekend, celebrities and radio station personnel hear St. Jude patients share their stories of survival, and attend sessions at the historic Peabody Hotel to learn how to plan successful radiothons.
Last year alone, country music radio stations and their generous listeners raised more than $26 million in pledges for St. Jude patients through two-day radiothons in their local markets. Since Randy Owen started the program 13 years ago, U.S. country radio stations have raised more than $157 million in pledges for St. Jude, the single largest center in the United States for the treatment and research of pediatric catastrophic diseases, such as cancer.
The Country Cares for St. Jude Kids seminar could not take place without the support of our family of sponsors which includes presenting sponsor, United Service Association For Health Care; official sponsors, American Airlines® and Central Imaging and Printing; sustaining sponsor, Back Yard Burgers; and contributing sponsor, Dishmag.com.
The Country Cares network of stations and the country music industry work together all year long to make the radiothons successful. In past years, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Clint Black were among artists who recorded personal messages that radio stations used to promote the event and attract support from country music fans. Patients and their parents also recorded messages, telling their stories and explaining the impact St. Jude has had on their lives.
