Marlo Thomas with patients

Marlo Thomas, daughter of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas,
became the spokesperson for St. Jude after her father’s death
in 1991. Thomas is the National Outreach Director for St. Jude.

Hello, I'm Marlo Thomas. I want to tell you about some very important friends of mine -- the children here at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. My father, Danny Thomas, founded this hospital to fulfill his dream that "no child should die in the dawn of life" because of cancer or other catastrophic diseases.

Today our doctors and nurses, the scientists and researchers and the children who walk through our doors are carrying out his dream. Through the years, we've made remarkable progress in the battle to save lives. Yet for all our accomplishments, there is more that needs to be done.

Every child deserves a chance at a life filled with love, laughter, friends and family. We are working to find the cures that will give these youngsters a fighting chance. When a child or parent faces an uncertain disease like cancer, they can find hope at St. Jude -- a place where miracles can and do happen.

I would like to share with you real-life stories of courage, determination and hope. You'll get a closer look into the real-life drama that these children endure each day. These stories are part of our one-hour TV program.
