At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, keeping children safe is of utmost importance. That’s why hospital departments work together to ensure that both clinicians and families have the latest information about such issues as medication safety. For instance, staff from many different areas of the hospital recently united to organize a fun-filled educational event that emphasized vigilance when it comes to ordering, administering, dispensing and storing a blood-thinning medication known as heparin. Staff from the Inpatient, Ambulatory Care, Intensive Care, Pharmacy, Child Life, Education and other departments participated in the heparin awareness fair. The events included special activities designed to teach patients and parents about safe use of the medication.
