Shortly after her fifth birthday, Malloree started to develop bruises sporadically across her body. When a large bruise formed on her side, her mom, Jennifer, became concerned. Malloree’s pediatrician ordered blood work, which revealed that she suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer.
Malloree’s doctor sent her to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where the diagnosis was confirmed and she started a two-and-a-half year treatment protocol of chemotherapy. Jennifer is grateful for the care her daughter is receiving. “St. Jude is a great place,” she said. “You couldn’t ask for anything better. Malloree is being taken care of, she gets everything she needs.” Whenever Malloree is scared or has questions about her treatment, Child Life staff members are on hand to answer her questions and calm her fears.
Malloree likes the playrooms at St. Jude and the bright, colorful murals that adorn the walls. She’s a tomboy who loves to play outside and climb trees with her big brother. Malloree also has a musical side—she loves Hannah Montana and the High School Musical movies.
