Thirty years ago, the St. Jude Bone Marrow Transplantation Program was established as one of the largest such programs in the country that was focused on pediatric diseases. Since then, more than 2,000 bone marrow transplantation procedures have been performed at St. Jude.
In 2011, Wing H. Leung, MD, PhD, was appointed Chair of St. Jude’s newly established Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy. With researchers working in both the clinic and laboratory, the department continues the long-held tradition of St. Jude being at the forefront of care by improving the outcome of transplantation procedures and developing new cell and gene therapies for cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
St. Jude investigators are pushing the boundaries of bone marrow transplantation and cell and gene therapy. Collaborative efforts in the clinic, laboratory, and Children’s GMP, LLC, are bringing groundbreaking therapies to patients with catastrophic diseases.
