In 2011, the Division of Developmental Biology was formed to bring together scientist studying basic mechanisms of cell fate specification, differentiation, cellular reprogramming and stem cell biology in organ systems that complement the ongoing research in the Department of Developmental Neurobiology. Research on model organisms will serve as the foundation for novel avenues of investigation to elucidate fundamental principles of normal development that are perturbed in cancer, aging and degeneration. Discoveries with the potential to impact novel therapeutic approaches will be strongly supported through the translational research infrastructure and expertise in the Division and as part of the Developmental Biology and Solid Tumor Program in the institutional Comprehensive Cancer Center.
