Learn more about Angiel

St. Jude patient Angiel

Angiel
9 years old
Alabama
osteosarcoma

In May 2011, after a ballet recital, Angiel told her mom that her leg hurt. A week later, she woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain. Her mother took her to the doctor, where an X-ray revealed that Angiel had a tumor on her right femur. Angiel was referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, where doctors confirmed she suffered from a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. They also found that Angiel had tumors in her left leg, as well.

At St. Jude, Angiel’s treatment has included chemotherapy and a limb-salvaging surgery, during which doctors removed the tumor and part of her femur and tibia in her right leg, and replaced the affected bone with a metal rod that will extend as Angiel continues to grow. When she gets closer to the end of her treatment, she will undergo surgery on her left leg. Angiel participates in physical therapy and the school program at St. Jude. She’s in fourth grade and loves math. She also loves her doctors and nurses.
