Award-winning author Nick Katsoris came to St. Jude recently, bringing a few sweet surprises along with him. The kids gathered around Katsoris as soon he sat down on the comfy couches in the Kay Kafe Family Corner and began his story of a fluffy, cuddly lamb named Loukoumi.

Loukoumi, named after a tasty Greek confection-like candy, teaches children about doing good deeds for others, and that “giving gifts need not cost a penny” because the perfect gift comes straight from the heart.

This was the author’s first public reading Loukoumi’s Good Deeds, the third book in his series of four Loukoumi books. As Katsoris read to the kids, he prompted them to repeat Loukoumi’s motto: “Whatever you do, whatever you say, do something nice for someone today.” After reading three of his books to the kids, Loukoumi herself made an appearance to help the author with his book signing and sharing hugs and posing for photos.

Loukouki’s Good Deeds and Loukoumi’s Gift also helped to promote “National Make a Difference Day” on Oct. 24. The books also make a difference to St. Jude kids with $2 from the sale of each book going to St. Jude.
