Target House is the primary long term housing option for patients at St. Jude. Patients are assigned to Target House if their treatment is scheduled to last more than three months. This house features 96 fully-furnished, two-bedroom apartments, and is sponsored by Target.
Arts and Crafts Room volunteers help keep the Arts & Crafts Room ready to use by stocking art supplies, preparing craft kits, neatly displaying artwork, and organizing donations. They also may assist with bulletin boards and hanging artwork in the Art Gallery.
Requirements - Must have good communication and organization skills. Also, must be able to work independently. Experience with arts and crafts is helpful but not required. Shift times available Monday through Friday, anytime between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Donation volunteers work with staff to help process and organize donated items. Tasks include putting away toys, making welcome bags for new residents, and replacing games and toys in the common rooms with the new, donated items.
Requirements - Must be able to work independently and have a good sense of organization. Must have good communication skills and be able to follow written and verbal directions. Shift times available Monday through Friday, anytime between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Project Leader volunteers lead recurring volunteer projects at Target House. Also, recruit volunteers for projects and work with Volunteer Coordinator to ensure appropriate orientations are provided.
Requirements - Must be able to effectively communicate HIPPA, infection control, and hospital/Target House guidelines to newly recruited volunteers. Must be able to demonstrate leadership while working with volunteer groups, and recruit volunteers as needed for projects. While performing the duties of this placement, the volunteer is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; kneel, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The volunteer must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this volunteer placement include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Shift times available weekdays, anytime between 10:00 am-9:00 pm.
