Doggy Daze for St. Jude

Each Tuesday morning in the atrium of the Danny Thomas Research Center, children gather around a group of furry and friendly faces. These huggable mugs belong to a group of dogs as part of Doggy Daze for St. Jude, a program which offers patients and families a welcome break from their daily schedule to relax and interact with the animals.

“It’s a great way to help the children adjust to the hospital environment and incorporate daily activities that are typically a part of a child and family’s routine,” said Shawna Grissom, Child Life director. Doggy Daze is sponsored by the Child Life program.

The program was recently extended to inpatients, who with the approval of a physician, visit with the canines on the first and third Thursday of each month on the hospital’s second floor.
