Clinical Nutrition

Because of their diverse input, Clinical Nutrition department personnel are integral members of the multidisciplinary team that provides patient care at St. Jude and is committed to excellence in patient care, as is the rest of the team.

Clinical Nutrition staff provides nutritional care (oral, enteral, parenteral) for St. Jude patients. Registered dietitians coordinate and/or provide individual responses to each patient’s nutritional needs, while striving to show their care and concern for their patients and their families.

The Clinical Nutrition staff is a source of nutrition information to patients, families, and employees. Registered dietitians provide current information on various aspects of nutrition and health to other health care professionals as well. Staff is encouraged to attend various classes, seminars, meetings, and workshops, enabling them to be at the forefront of nutrition information.

Nutrition Services also serves as an educational center for undergraduate and graduate students. The department provides internships and traineeships through pre-approved programs to students, dietitians, and other health care professionals.

Clinical Nutrition staff conducts research in nutrition as related to pediatric cancer or other catastrophic childhood diseases. Through ongoing research and teaching efforts, St. Jude dietitians continually seek to improve the quality of nutritional care provided in-house and throughout the world.
