When Hancock Fabrics asked Martha Pullen to join them in raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through last year’s Quilt of Dreams promotion, she couldn’t refuse.
As a result more than $1 million was raised for St. Jude in 2003. Now, the 2004 Quilt of Dreams promotion is underway and once again, Martha Pullen has joined with Hancock Fabrics to help find cures for catastrophic childhood diseases such as cancer.
The 2004 Martha Pullen Web-A-Thon is going on now. Please join Martha Pullen and her sewing family by making a donation to St. Jude today! You can make a single or monthly gift and can also donate in honor or in memory of someone special. Your support will help St. Jude continue its life-saving research and help thousands of children worldwide.
In addition to the Web-A-Thon, Pullen will again feature St. Jude patients in the May 2004 issue of her magazine, Sew Beautiful. The patients will be modeling designs made by some of Pullen’s sewing friends using the St. Jude/Hancock Fabrics fabric line.
New to this year is the All Dolled Up for St. Jude contest. To participate, sewing enthusiasts construct clothes, accessories or quilts for an 18-inch doll that will be auctioned off on eBay, with all proceeds going to St. Jude.
The contest is divided into six categories. A first, second, and third place winner will be chosen in each category in addition to one Grand Prize winner, one Judge’s Choice winner, and one Sew Beautiful prize winner. The categories are smocked garment, casual clothing, French sewn fancy clothing, lingerie, doll quilt (finished size 24 x 32 inches) and doll accessories (shoes, hats, purses, etc.).
All submissions will be considered donations and will not be returned. Once the contest ends, all submission will be grouped into wardrobes along with an 18-inch Götz doll and will be auctioned on eBay in mid-August.
The grand prize winner will receive a Baby Lock Decorator’s Choice sewing machine. Other prizes include Sulky “Dream” Thread Box of 12-weight cotton thread, tuition (only) to one Martha Pullen School or Extravaganza and gift certificates to Hancock Fabrics stores.
Quilters will also be able to support St. Jude by attending Martha’s Quilt Trail which combines quilting classes from the Quilt of Dreams Academy and Martha’s Quilt Academy.
The Quilt of Dreams Academy will take place on Sept. 8 at the Bancorp South Center in Tupelo, Miss. Tuition is $50.
The following day, the Quilt Trail will travel to Huntsville, Ala., where Martha’s Quilt Academy will be held at the Van Braun Center The optional preday classes will be held on Sept. 9 with the three day sessions running from Sept. 10-12. Tuition for the Sept. 9 event is $15 per class and $150 for the three-day academy. Ten percent of the tuition fees from these classes will go to St. Jude.
