The NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies announced a partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in April 2002. Under the partnership, the Grizzlies committed to several activities to build relationships between the team and children undergoing treatment at St. Jude. In September 2002, the Grizzlies extended the partnership by pledging $5 million toward construction of the $10 million Memphis Grizzlies House.
Memphis Grizzlies House is an integral part of the domiciliary care program at St. Jude. It is located on the St. Jude campus and provides a comfortable environment for patients and families who are undergoing treatment at St. Jude from one to seven days. Many out-of-town patients and their families were formerly housed in hotels near the hospital.
The five-story residence features recreation areas for common use, including a large family area surrounded by rooms specifically designed for parents, teens, preteens and children. An enclosed playground and basketball half-court are located outside of the residence.
St. Jude patients who stay at Memphis Grizzlies House reflect the full range of the hospital’s population – from babies to teens.
The Memphis Grizzlies House is the first housing facility located directly on the St. Jude campus.
There is no cost to the families staying at Memphis Grizzlies House.
Memphis Grizzlies House was designed by The Renaissance Group, Memphis, Tenn., and is managed by Wilson Hotel Management Company, Inc., a division of Kemmons Wilson Companies.
