St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway

Sara Evans takes on new role in support of St. Jude

Sara Evans’ face fills the frame of the Country Cares for St. Jude Kids® video and her voice rings with sincerity.

“Every time I come here to visit,” she says of the hospital, “I just go away thanking God for this place. Because it really is a miracle. It’s a miracle what happens here.”

The country music star’s long-standing support of the mission of St. Jude has helped raise the funds and awareness that makes those miracles possible for the hospital. And now she’s taking on an even bigger commitment to help the children of St. Jude.

Evans will serve as the national spokesperson for the 2009-2010 St. Jude Dream Home® Giveaway. Dream Home is a national campaign in which generous local partners help with the construction, promotion and giveaway of a new home, with proceeds benefiting St. Jude. Evans brings a popular and recognizable presence to the Dream Home campaign. In her role as spokesperson, she has recorded radio and television promotions and will be included in Dream Home marketing materials.

Serving as the national spokesperson is a natural fit for Evans, because many of the radio stations that support St. Jude through Dream Home are also partners in Country Cares for St. Jude Kids, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Evans has participated for years in Country Cares. In addition to appearing in the 2008 Country Cares seminar highlights video, she has recorded liners for the CDs used in the Country Cares radiothons.

“Every day, cancer threatens the lives of kids across the country,” said Evans. “As a mother, I’m thankful to have healthy children, but some kids aren’t so fortunate. Parents find hope at St. Jude.”
Evans recently received the 2009 AutoZone Liberty Bowl’s Outstanding Achievement Award. The award is presented each year to an individual or group who has exhibited excellence in their chosen field and service to community. Past recipients include B.B. King, Lou Rawls, Clint Black, Little Richard, Alabama, The Beach Boys, and LeAnn Rimes. She performed at the bowl’s President’s Gala on Jan. 1 and at halftime of the 50th anniversary AutoZone Liberty Bowl game, where she was joined by St. Jude patients.

Her career achievements include being named the Academy of Country Music’s Female Vocalist of the Year and winning the Country Music Association’s Video of the Year for “Born to Fly.”
