Clear Channel Communications visits St. Jude

On October 4, representatives from Clear Channel Communications visited St. Jude. Lisa Dollinger, Chief Communications Officer for Clear Channel, and Cammy Jones, Director of Communications, were in Memphis to see firsthand the work that goes on every day at St. Jude and the advancements their company has helped make by supporting the research of St. Jude.

Clear Channel is a major player in St. Jude's Country Cares and Radio Cares programs. Of the more than 200 radio stations that broadcast radiothons for St. Jude, Clear Channel owns 70, or one-third, of the stations. And of the $28 million raised through radio programs last year, Clear Channel stations were responsible for $7 million.

Dollinger and Jones met with St. Jude Chief Medical Officer Joseph Mirro, MD, and toured some of the labs at St. Jude, including the Hartwell Center for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. Following the tour, ALSAC Chief Operating Officer Dave McKee presented two plaques to the representatives, one featuring a replica of the Congressional Gold Medal that was presented to Danny Thomas by President Ronald Reagan in 1985.

"It is absolutely amazing and humbling," said Dollinger, after touring the hospital. "The work done here is helping children all over the country and all over the world. This really gives me some context I can take back and share, and we will see what more we can do for St. Jude."

Dollinger and Jones also met with patient families during their visit, including Briana, the 11-year-old daughter of a Clear Channel employee who came to St. Jude after Hurricane Katrina wiped out the Gulf Coast.

"We are honored to have Ms. Dolinger and Ms. Jones here at St. Jude to experience firsthand the life-saving work taking place at our great facility," said John P. Moses, chief executive officer for ALSAC. "The Clear Channel organization has long been an important member of our family, and we appreciate all the support their dedicated employees have given to us over the years. Using their airwaves, they have shared the message of St. Jude across the country, helping us obtain some of our most loyal and generous donors."
