Palm Desert, California (March 8, 2011) – The inaugural Patrick Warburton Golf For Kids Celebrity Golf Tournament wrapped up over the weekend raising more than $200,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
The tournament, hosted by CBS star Patrick Warburton, took place March 4 – 6 with two days of golfing at the Classic Club and a dinner and comedy show, headlined by Warburton’s co-star David Spade, at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. In addition to Warburton and Spade, other celebrity attendees included Patrick’s Rules of Engagement castmates Oliver Hudson, Bianca Kajlich, Adhir Kaylan and Megyn Price as well as celebrity friends Dave Dettman (Dr. Gadget), Greg Ellis, Patrick Fabian, Don Felder, Robbie Gould, Robert Hays, Beverly Johnson, Richard Karn, Richard Kind, Cheech Marin, Bruce McGill, Jim McMahon, Sam McMurray, Scotty Medlock, Rob Morrow, John O’Hurley, Sam Page, Ron Pearlman, Luke Perry, Ricky Phillips and Brian Thompson. Comedians Mark Eddie and Mike Wilson also loaned their talents, opening for Spade on Saturday night.
Warburton decided to host a tournament to benefit St. Jude after attending a similar tournament in Florida. He and his wife, Cathy, got the chance to experience the hospital’s mission firsthand, visiting the Memphis, Tennessee, based facility and meeting patients battling cancer and other catastrophic diseases. That visit solidified their support of St. Jude and plans began for the Palm Desert event.
“Once you visit the hospital and see the kids who are receiving lifesaving treatment there’s really nothing else you can do but try to help in some way,” said Warburton. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of this first-year event and am so thankful for all the support we got from our sponsors, celebrities and golfers. I’m looking forward to putting on another great event next year.”
The event was sponsored by The Auen Foundation, The Amidei Romano Group with Merrill Lynch, Emerson, John Scardino, Jerry Weintraub, Sandi Young, CBS, Sony Pictures Television and Agromin. In kind sponsors of the event include the Berger Foundation’s Classic Club Golf Course, One Hope and the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa.
