Promesa y Esperanza radiothons kick off new season

Spanish-language entertainment industry leaders and top business executives from across the United States came together January 20-22, 2006, in Memphis, Tennessee, to celebrate the sixth annual Promesa y Esperanza Hispanic radio training seminar.

During the seminar, radio executives from more than 50 stations shared techniques for developing and implementing successful Promesa y Esperanza radiothons within Hispanic communities in the United States. A mix of different media industries and companies, such as Yahoo! en Español and FedEx Latin America & Caribbean Division participated in the seminar, adding a unique networking opportunity to the event.

The seminar included presentations from well-known Latin musicians, Luis Enrique, Eduardo Osorio, Fernando Osorio and Juan Carlos Perez-Soto, who provided the entertainment for the seminar's closing celebration.

Since its creation in 1997, Promesa y Esperanza has grown to become one of the most successful radio fund-raising programs in the Hispanic community, generating thousands of annual donors. In this special reunion of radio stations committed to supporting the hospital's mission, attendees had the opportunity to tour St. Jude and meet families who shared their stories about the support they have received from the hospital thanks to the money Promesa y Esperanza helps raise. In all, more than 65 radio stations have helped raise more than $20 million in cash and pledges for St. Jude patients.

Built on the same foundation as the Country Cares for St. Jude Kids® radiothons, Promesa provides radio stations with everything they need for a successful two-day radiothon, from brochures to volunteer phone operators fot Spanish-speaking St. Jude families who can give listeners a first-hand account of what the hospital means to them as they go through the ordeal of a cancer-stricken child.
