St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital celebrated its February 4, 1962, opening earlier this month with the unveiling of the St. Jude 50th Anniversary Wall and a variety of anniversary-themed events.

St. Jude director and CEO Dr. William E. Evans was joined by Memphis and Shelby County mayors and other distinguished guests to unveil the wall, which includes four-themed windows. Each window tells a story about the hospital’s history, dedication to employees and growth over the last half-century. Tennessee Commissioner of Health John Dreyzehner, MD, read a proclamation during the event from Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam that declared February as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Month in the state.

Hospital employees enjoyed the week’s events by traveling back in time and dressing in the attire of the past 50 years. Faculty and staff donned wigs, tie-dyed clothing and other blasts from the past as each day featured a different decade. In addition, local musicians entertained hospital employees each day.
