Metabolism and Cell Fate – Perspectives in Normal Physiology and Cancer
Friday, November 7, 2014
8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Metabolic flux of nutrients into energy and molecular products is required for all cellular and organismal viability and for most cellular functions. Aberrant metabolism has long been an area of study in biomedical research and many successful clinical translations have been based on restoring normal
metabolism or on ameliorating negative effects of deficits caused by abnormal metabolism. Recently the study of cellular metabolism has re-emerged in cancer biology.
The 2014 Biomedical Symposium features scientists whose work has broadened our understanding of normal metabolism and the anomalies that occur in metabolic pathways during disease. These studies have
laid the groundwork for discovery of new therapeutic targets and the development of new treatments, and have revealed complex interactions between metabolic and signaling pathways in cell fate decisions.
