AutoZone’s philosophy of going the extra mile is evident not only in customer service, but also in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
This year, AutoZone will celebrate six years as a St. Jude Thanks and Giving® partner. By joining St. Jude Thanks and Giving in 2006, AutoZone reached out to its loyal customers to raise funds, then created a specially designed point-of-sale system in 2007 that still serves as a model for other corporate partners today. As a result of this effort, AutoZone has raised more than $2 million in 2011 alone.
AutoZone began partnering with St. Jude in 2001 through a variety of programs, becoming the title sponsor of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in 2004. This game provides a tremendous amount of awareness for the hospital, as the only national college bowl game where a charity is recognized in the logo.
AutoZone officially joined the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign in 2006, raising $360,000. By utilizing their point-of-sale system to ask customers to donate, AutoZone was able to make an extraordinary jump in fundraising to $2.1 million in 2007. They have continued to build on this register add-on program through 2012. This use of technology inspired other corporate partners to follow AutoZone’s lead and helped provide a blueprint to increase overall fundraising for St. Jude.
AutoZone has continued to use a variety of assets to promote the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign to more than 4,300 stores throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The debit pad, the z-net screensaver and a spotlight on autozone.com were used to highlight AutoZone’s support of St. Jude.
AutoZone also promoted the campaign in its internal Tune In magazine and communications to stores during November and December. Additional awareness was also created by playing St. Jude PSAs at AutoZone’s national sales meeting kickoff event.
All of these have led efforts to a grand total of $11.4 million in giving during five years of participating in St. Jude Thanks and Giving. In addition, AutoZoners have supported St. Jude through its employee giving and matching gifts program, raising more than $25,000 in the past year.
AutoZone’s innovation and dedication to the St. Jude mission has helped make the partnership a tremendous success that continues to grow stronger every year.
