Danielle Mackey decided to raise $100,000 for kids like St. Jude patient Gayatri.
No stranger to challenges or fame, Danielle Mackey, from King of the Nerds Season 1 and TradeChat on YouTube, recently set an exceptional goal of raising $100,000 through St. Jude PLAY LIVE this summer.
Danielle — like many gamers — started out playing video games at home with her family. As her expertise grew so did her fame in the gaming community, gaining nearly 300,000 YouTube subscribers, 120,000 Facebook fans and 45,000 Twitter followers.
Danielle recently visited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, meeting doctors, staff and patients.
“When I visited St. Jude, I was overcome with emotion. It was amazing seeing so many people doing everything in their power to help others. It was one of the most humbling and memorable experiences of my life,” shared Danielle.
When Danielle learned about St. Jude PLAY LIVE, she knew she had to participate. “[St. Jude] PLAY LIVE is an amazing way for people in my generation to get involved in charity, and their participation will make a huge impact on someone else's life. Not to mention, students can earn service hours just for playing games!”
Getting involved with St. Jude PLAY LIVE is simple: participants set up a fundraising page, ask for donations to benefit St. Jude and play video games through September 1. Corporate sponsors like GameStop are providing gamers with amazing incentives, like an all-expense-paid trip to the GameStop Expo for top fundraisers. Anyone can donate, participate and compete to help the kids of St. Jude.
Danielle shared her thoughts about her visit and fundraising, challenging herself, her team and her fans to raise $100,000 for the lifesaving work at St. Jude.
“I never really thought of my goal as being ‘that high’. I just want to help out as much as I can,” said Danielle. “Truthfully, it's not about my personal goal; it's about raising awareness for all the wonderful things St. Jude has contributed to children and families everywhere.”
