July 2012 Patient of the Month

5 years old

Aiden was found to suffer from non-Hodgkin lymphoma in August 2011.

Aiden's St. Jude story:

Aiden loves to play in the mud. When he is covered head-to-toe, he’ll run up to his mom and beg her to rinse him off with the garden hose. Aiden has always been a happy kid, but since he’s returned home from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where he was treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Aiden takes special delight in the normal things, the things most people take for granted. Caked in dirt, he smiles. His mom considers scolding him, but instead she laughs.

When Aiden's family arrived at St. Jude in July 2011, they were frightened for his life. They worried their son would die, but also dared to imagine a healthy, bright future for him.

Aiden’s treatment at St. Jude included five months of chemotherapy.

During their time at St. Jude, Aiden’s family was grateful for so much. They appreciated the generosity of the public who help keep St. Jude funded, so that they never received a bill. They were relieved to learn housing would be provided to them during their time in Memphis. And they especially loved that whenever Aiden’s doctor would see him in the hallway, she would open her arms wide for a hug.

“St. Jude is heaven on earth,” said Aiden’s mom. “You have children who are fighting for their lives every single day, but they still smile.”

Today, Aiden is home and doing well. He likes to wrestle and jump on the trampoline. He also loves to play outside with his puppy.
