St. Jude patients create their own gingerbread houses
Photography by Peter Barta
St. Jude patients got into the holiday spirit recently by making their own gingerbread houses, with help from 18 chefs from the Memphis area. Each patient received his or her own apron and chef hat to prepare for the construction of the holiday creations.
Topped with a variety of candies, sprinkles, chocolates and icing, each house uniquely highlighted the personality of the child who decorated it. Once the houses were completed, they were displayed throughout the holiday season next to the large St. Jude Gingerbread House, which was created by hospital Food Services staff. The large house was created using 800 pieces of gingerbread, 120 pounds of icing and 50 pounds of candy.
