
Time Away from Work
Paid Holidays
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital provides all regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week time away from work to celebrate certain days of significance and remembrance based upon custom, history and local tradition. Paid holidays include the following;
Vacation
St. Jude provides vacation leave to regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week. Vacation time accrues from the first day of employment. The annual accrual for regular full-time employees for employment years one through nine is 15 days. The annual accrual beginning in employment year 10 is 20 days.
Paid Sick Leave
St. Jude provides regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week paid sick leave for temporary absences from work due to illness or injury. Paid sick leave time accrues from the first day of employment. The annual accrual for regular full-time employees for the first year of employment is nine days. Beginning in employment year five, the annual accrual is 12 days.
Leave of Absence
Family and Medical Leave
In accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital grants leave to eligible employees for up to 12 work weeks in a 12-month period. FMLA leave is a guaranteed period of time in which an employee may be absent from work with job protection due to the following: an employee’s own serious health condition or to care for a child, spouse or parent with a serious health condition, care for a newborn child or newly adopted or newly placed foster care child. The time away from work under FMLA is unpaid after the employee has exhausted vacation and/or sick time.
Extended Medical Leave
St. Jude provides up to 14 weeks of consecutive unpaid extended leave to employees who have completed one year of employment. Extended Medical leave may be taken for the employee’s own serious health condition. Salary continuation may be available for eligible employees.
Personal Leave of Absence
St. Jude provides an opportunity for eligible employees to take a leave of absence beyond that available under other leave or vacation policies. All regular and full-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week and have completed one month of employment are eligible to apply for a personal leave of up to six weeks. After completing one year of employment employees may be eligible for up to an additional six weeks in a rolling calendar year for a maximum of 12 weeks. Sick, vacation and personal days do not accrue during the personal leave period.
Military Service Leave
St. Jude provides Military Service Leave to employees who are members of the Armed Forces in accordance with the provisions of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994.
Personal Days
St. Jude provides regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week up to two personal days per year. Personal days are granted to eligible employees on January 1 and July 1 of each year.
