On Feb. 11, New York’s WADO 1280 AM became the first Promesa y Esperanza radio station to hit the $1 million mark with its radiothon.
The fourth annual radiothon, which aired across the Univision Radio network, raised $1.175 million in pledges during the two-day broadcast. The radiothon was aired in 15 other Univision markets including Los Angeles, Dallas and Miami.
“WADO has been a tremendous supporter of St. Jude in recent years,” said ALSAC Vice President John Vranas. “Each year, WADO—and its listeners—answer the call of children stricken with catastrophic diseases. I know that the families here and around the world are thankful for the generosity that they show.”
Among this year’s highlights, Dr. Isabel Gómez-Bassols, the nation’s most popular Hispanic radio psychologist, encouraged her radio listeners to support the life-saving work at St. Jude.
Gómez-Bassols visited St. Jude in January, touring the facility, learning about the work that goes on every day at St. Jude and meeting some of the Hispanic patients who are fighting for their lives against cancer.
