Twelve teams of employees delved deep into their minds to answers questions during this summer’s St. Jude Trivia Bowl. The questions related to St. Jude history, hospital founder Danny Thomas, the year 1962 and the city of Memphis. The event was part of the St. Jude 50th anniversary celebration, honoring the hospital's history and fostering friendly competition between colleagues.
St. Jude, Children's GMP, LLC, and ALSAC employees formed teams with creative, humorous and St. Jude-themed names to compete in the six-match event, which began June 14 and concluded with a finals round August 3 in the Kay Kafe rotunda. Celebrity guest hosts from the Memphis community served as emcees of each round, including Fox 13 News Anchor Mearl Purvis; Memphis Athletic Ministries President and CEO James Armfield; radio personality Steve Conley of WKQK 94.1 FM; Action News 5 Chief Consumer Investigator Andy Wise; CBSSports.com columnist and radio personality Gary Parrish; and News Channel 3 Meteorologist Jim Jaggers.
All the teams competed in the first three matches with the eight highest scoring teams advancing to the playoffs. The teams Too Smart for Minza and MC Hammer earned automatic berths into the semi-finals with the highest scores from the first three rounds. These teams were joined by Sling Blade, the Donor Room Divas and the Happy Half-Hour Club in the semi-finals, with the latter two teams advancing to the August 3 finals. The Happy Half-Hour Club edged the Donor Room Divas by a 63-60 margin to win the St. Jude Trivia Bowl.
