An Invitation

The eighth annual FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Miami Gala will be held at The InterContinental Miami on Saturday, May 15, 2010.

2009 Honoree

In May of 2009, the FedEx/ St. Jude Angles & Star Miami Gala honored Tommy Mottola and his wife, Latin superstar Thalia, for their generous support of children’s charities and contributions to the entertainment industry.

In addition to honoring this amazing couple, guests were treated to live performances by some of the hottest Latin music stars including Mexican singer Cristian Castro, Cuban singer Willy Chirino, Colombian songstress Fanny Lu and pianist and composer Arthur Hanlon. In previous years, Jose Feliciano, Albita, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Luis Enrique, Eduardo Osorio, Javier Garcia, the late Soraya and others have also supported St. Jude by performing at the gala.

No place in the world does for children what St. Jude does

  • The daily operating cost for St. Jude is nearly $1.4 million, which is primarily covered by public contributions.
  • Working together under one roof, St. Jude physicians and scientists have pioneered treatments that have helped push the overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to 80 percent today.
  • Eighty-four cents of every dollar received supports the research and treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the second largest health-related charity in the country, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy. A recent national survey conducted by Zogby International shows that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the best known children's health-related charity in the country. The Zogby survey found that St. Jude name recognition is a remarkable 97 percent, meaning most Americans have heard of the institution. According to the Zogby survey, 88 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of St. Jude.
