More than 1,030 volunteers gave 37,094 hours to St. Jude; the equivalency of 17.8 full-time employees.
Our volunteers ranged in age from 16–89, with an average age of 39.
Child Life volunteers served in 13 inpatient and outpatient areas of the hospital and provided the greatest number of hours of any placement in the hospital.
Beverage Cart volunteers served 7,628 cups of hot coffee and hot chocolate to our patients and families. These volunteers served an average of 30 cups per shift, and the cart circulated 258 times.
Fresh produce was grown by 27 garden volunteers for use in Kay Kafe.
Snack bag volunteers assembled thousands of on-the-go treats for our patients.
Helping Hands volunteers filled approximately 1,000 requests for respite care for 1,066 patients and siblings.
Volunteers assisted in the bakery, helping customers with decisions on sweet treats and lending an extra hand to the bakers.
The Doggy Daze program expanded to evenings and into an inpatient area. While they are at St. Jude, patients are separated from their pets at home. This program allows children a unique experience with man’s best friend.
The Eucharist was offered on approximately 265 days by Eucharistic Lay Ministry volunteers to our Catholic patients and families.
Clerical volunteers served in 18 departments campus wide for a total of 3,300 hours.
Customers in the hospital Gift Shop were assisted by 24 volunteers.
Volunteers supported the staff and visitors of the Family Resource Center.
Interpretation and translation needs were fulfilled for patients and families by many multilingual volunteers.
Hospital volunteer tour guides led 363 tours for 2,242 visitors.
Knitting volunteers gave lessons to more than 225 patients and family members.
The Parent Support ICU Massage volunteer position was created.
More than 140 students from local colleges and universities were engaged during the spring and fall semesters.
Students delivered crafts and fun via the Happy Cart to inpatients and their families, presented more than 55 inpatient group activity nights, and almost 50 themed event nights at the Memphis Grizzlies House.
Pediatric Oncology Education students were provided an opportunity for direct patient interaction. More than 25 students provided multiple activities each week for inpatients, as well as to Memphis Grizzlies House families.
Two sessions of Volunteens experienced a rich St. Jude summer experience and provided special interactive events for our patients and siblings.
Volunteer groups provided 93 dinners and events at the Memphis Grizzlies House, serving more than 10,000 delicious meals. Guests were entertained, supported, and made to feel at home by almost 1,000 volunteers.
Volunteer Services provided volunteer support for 38 special requests, dispatching 103 volunteers. These requests ranged from helping with Day of Remembrance to the Santa’s Helpers event for a yearly total of 327 hours.
Volunteers served in a variety of places throughout the campus and were not only vital in the support they provided to patients and families, but to staff as well.
