The outstanding work of St. Jude physicians was celebrated March 27 during the National Doctors’ Day celebration. The hospital recognizes physicians for their leadership and devotion to patient care with an annual ice cream social for doctors, employees, patients and families.

Employees showed their appreciation by volunteering to scoop ice cream sundaes during the event. The hospital’s Managed Care department hosts the event.

The first observance of Doctors’ Day was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Georgia, when Eudora Almond, the wife of physician Charles Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor doctors. The first National Doctors’ Day was officially recognized by the United States government on March 30, 1991.
