Quilt of Dreams 2004 Contest

They dream of being teachers, pilots, horse trainers and princesses. However, these seemingly simple childhood dreams are overshadowed with dreams of a cure for cancer, being a normal 13-year-old, and not having any more needle sticks. Even though patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are battling life-threatening childhood diseases, they do not let those realities stand in the way of their dreams for the future. This year, as part of the 2004 Quilt of Dreams promotion, customers and employees of Hancock Fabrics had the opportunity to help make a child's dream come to life by creating a quilt based on their dreams.

Purchase a Quilt to Benefit St. Jude

Inspired by artwork drawn by children receiving treatments at the hospital, Hancock has designed 37 one-of-a-kind fabric patterns. Upon purchasing the fabric, participants were encouraged to create lap quilts. To help quilters design their original quilt of love, a list of dreams written by the children of St. Jude was provided in an information packet.

Some 3,500 quilts were donated to St. Jude through this promotion with over 2,000 to be given to patients. Some remaining quilts will be used for additional fund-raising purposes with all monies raised going to support the hospital’s life-saving work.

Make a $150 donation to the hospital and select a quilt from the Quilt of Dreams promotion. A portion of your gift is tax-deductible. ($110 of your $150 gift is a tax-deductible gift. $40 is an average price of making a quilt and is not tax-deductible. )
