St. Jude History & Growth - Outreach
St. Jude has improved therapy and dramatically increased the survival rates for children with cancer during the past three decades, but worldwide, fewer than 30 percent of children with cancer have access to modern treatment. The mission of the International Outreach Program (IOP) is to improve the survival rates of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases worldwide, through the sharing of knowledge, technology and organizational skills.
International Outreach transfers the progress achieved in the treatment of childhood cancer in developed countries to those with limited resources. The IOP has formal partnerships in 16 countries including: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, Venezuela, Morocco, Ireland, Lebanon, China, Jordan, Singapore and the Philippines. In addition, non-partner collaborations are in existence with Russia, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Panama.
With strong humanitarian commitment, St. Jude seeks to help caregivers in other countries develop skills and resources necessary to care for children in their countries by providing education, training, consultation and transfer of medical expertise. The program fosters opportunities for collaborative research efforts between St. Jude scientists and clinicians and their international counterparts.
