On Feb. 10, Target pulled out all the stops to host a Valentine-themed Target Carnival especially for the kids of St. Jude. The Danny Thomas/ALSAC Pavilion was transformed into a festive, sweetheart event full of candy hearts, crayons and music for all. Patients and their siblings were welcomed with carnival food and other sweet treats, face-painting, games galore and plenty of x’s and o’s to go around. The singing group, The Blenders, mixed it up with a few lively tunes from their CD Songs from the Soul while kids created personalized love letter mailboxes as a special delivery arts and crafts project. The kids also were treated to goodie bags, each filled with a box of Valentines, a Target GiftCard, The Blenders’ CD plus an array of school supplies such as pencils, erasers and notepads to take to their next stop – the St. Jude School Open House.

The party moved across the street to the Patient Care Center for the open house, celebrating the opening of the St. Jude School presented by Target. Target redesigned the school to better meet the needs of the hospital and its patients. In January 2010, the remodel unveiled bigger, updated classrooms, plus new desks, chairs, artwork, a fresh coat of paint, and an interactive SMART Board – all to inspire a life-long love of learning.
