XPD10-046 (SJLIF17): Feasibility Study of Neurocognitive Rehabilitation in Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer

Description
Children who received antimetabolite chemotherapy treatment and/or radiation therapy for treatment of childhood cancer are at risk for developing problems with attention, memory and processing speed. This study is being done to see if adult survivors of childhood cancer with these problems will practice game-like activities that include thinking exercises, simple math, and memorizing. This study will also help determine if game-like activities will help improve cognitive abilities, such as attention, memory and how quickly the participant can think. The study will also help to determine if survivors are willing to practice activities at home and if they will return for another neurocognitive exam after six months of taking part in this study.
Objectives
- To find out if adult survivors of childhood cancer with certain neurocognitive deficits in will practice game-like activities at home.
- To find out if these survivors will return for a repeat neurocognitive evaluation after six months of these game-like activities.
- To collect initial data on whether these activities can improve performance on neurocognitive tests.
Eligibility
- Treatment with antimetabolites (i.e. methotrexate) and/or radiation to the brain as a child as part of treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
- Enrollment on the SJLIFE protocol
- IQ > 79
- Attention and/or memory problems as identified on neurocognitive testing.
