St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is proud to announce Sandy Ellis as the 2011 Trike-A-Thon Coordinator of the Year. Ellis recently retired from Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she coordinated the Trike-A-Thon for 21 years.

Ellis freely shares how easy it has been to help, as she has seen many around her benefit from the care provided at St. Jude over the years. This year, when she should have been planning for retirement, she was encouraged to work even harder as one of her students was an active St. Jude patient. Her hard work and determination led her school in raising $3800, making this year its most successful year to date.

Sacred Heart of Jesus School has participated in the Trike-A-Thon program since 1988, raising more than $60,000. Ellis has involved the parents and the community in her event each year. The students look forward to the “Bikewell Bear Town” the program leaders build each year, as well as the memory book Ellis creates for each participant featuring their pictures from the event.

Ellis’s dedication to St. Jude has been amazing and evident in the many years she supported the program. St. Jude thanks Sacred Heart of Jesus School for their years of hard work. For her creativity and dedication to the children of St. Jude and its mission, St. Jude is proud to honor Sandy Ellis with this award.
