Protocol
REN532: Treatment for Very Low, Low and Standard Risk Favorable Histology Wilms Tumor
Diseases
Solid Tumor : Wilms tumor
Description
Wilms tumor is the most common tumor of the kidney, and is seen mainly in young children. There are several stages assigned to these tumors. The stage is determined by how large the tumor is, how far it has spread, and if other tissue has become involved in the disease. The stage of the disease determines the treatment that is given to the patient.
Participants in this research study are also enrolled in another research study known as RENBIO. The RENBIO study evaluates the tumor cells, images of the tumor and its location in the body, and tests to determine the genetic make-up of the tumor. The study provides information that can help better predict the outcome of treating the tumor. Treatments available in this research study are based on the staging and the information gathered from the RENBIO study results.
Objectives
-
To determine if there are things about the tumor cells that might tell us why standard treatment does not get rid of all tumors
-
To determine if participants with a higher risk of the tumor returning will benefit from additional chemotherapy drugs
-
To determine if children less than 2 years old with a small tumor that is contained inside one kidney can be cured with surgery alone
Eligibility
- Participant is less than or equal to 30 years of age at the time of diagnosis
- Participant is able to perform ordinary tasks and daily activities as defined in the study guidelines
- Participant has adequate function of the liver and heart
