St. Jude offers education and training opportunities for medical students at all levels.
Fourth-year electives involving patient care are offered to medical students from LCME approved medical schools in a variety of specialties involving the care of children with malignancies, hematologic disorders, HIV infection or immunogenetic disorders. These specialties include:
In order to receive credit from his/her medical school for the elective, students should direct inquiries to nancy.wedgworth@stjude.org. Ms. Wedgworth will provide the student with the necessary forms to guarantee credit. For students whose schools are enrolled in the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) program, application for a St. Jude elective can be made using VSAS through the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.
Students wishing to learn and to participate in clinical or basic science research may want to review the annual Scientific Report to become familiar with ongoing research projects. If a specific project is identified, the student should contact the senior investigator to determine if he/she would be qualified to work on the project. The student and investigator together would then determine if the research was eligible for academic credit or if funds were available. Additional questions can be directed to the Office of Academic Programs or the POE program.
