Pediatric cancer has been the focus of the research of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since its doors opened in 1962, when acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common type of childhood cancer, was only curable in four of 100 children. Great strides have been made in the fight against childhood cancer because of the research done at St. Jude and other research institutions: currently the cure rate for ALL is 80 percent.
In addition to ALL, many other catastrophic childhood diseases are being treated and cured at St. Jude. Below you'll find detailed and up-to-date information including the definition, clinical features, treatment strategies and current research on these diseases. For information about whether a specific disease is currently being treated in a clinical trial at St. Jude, click on Protocols/Clinical Studies in Related Topics.
