The Hope Garden on the St. Jude campus officially opened during a March 25 ribbon-cutting ceremony. In the weeks before, the Hope Garden gradually took shape in an area of the campus next to the ALSAC Gift Shop.
St. Jude patients participated in a project art party to paint the brick pavers that lined a portion of the pathway in the Hope Garden. The pavers were adorned with a variety of colors and individual messages. The Hope Garden project was conceived and led by former St. Jude patient Jeremiah Godby, who now owns a landscaping firm, and Godby’s former college professor. Forty students from Godby’s college, Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, spent their spring break working in the garden and installing the pavers.
