Online auction helps strum up funds for St. Jude kids

Music lovers now have the opportunity to own some specially-autographed guitars and help the patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the process.

The Guitars 4 Kids® auction on eBay®  http://www.guitars4kids.com/ allows music fans to bid on guitars autographed by celebrities with all funds from the program benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Michael Ciravolo, president of Schecter Guitar Research, and Tish Ciravolo, president of Daisy Rock Guitars, launched the Guitars 4 Kids program at the beginning of 2004. The idea for the auction struck Michael Ciravolo after he and his wife saw a public service announcement for St. Jude which helped them realize how fortunate they are to have two healthy daughters.

The Ciravolos' goal is to raise $25,000 by the end of 2004, and he's just about half way there. So far, Guitars 4 Kids has raised more than $12,000 for St. Jude through the sale of 12 guitars. The most popular was the Schecter Diamond Series Omen-6 guitar, signed by members of The Cure, which sold for $3,000.  Other celebrities including Billy Bob Thornton, Alice Cooper and members of The Deftones have penned their signatures to various guitars for the benefit.
