A Novel Method for Quantitative Detection of Purines and Their Metabolites (SJ-13-0014)
Description Researchers have designed a new, relatively simple, direct and accurate method for the quantitative measurement of the purine neurotransmitter adenosine, other purines, and their metabolites (adenosine monophosphate (AMP), diphosphate (ADP) and triphosphate (ATP)). This method uses high pressure liquid chromatography coupled to an electrochemical detector (HPLC-ECD), equipment that is widely available. This research could help in developing treatments for neurological disorders that would have fewer severe or long term side effects, and development of therapeutics for other areas that may be affected by adenosine.
