Rhodes Student Placement – Description of Activities
The goal of the Rhodes Student Placement is to provide students with an applied introduction to pediatric psychology. As such, students participating in this practicum placement will be exposed to a variety of clinical and clinical research activities within the Department of Psychology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Under the direct supervision of an attending psychologist, the student(s) completing this practicum may potentially be exposed to the following activities:
- Observation of neuropsychological/psychoeducational assessment, diagnostic interviews, psychotherapy and/or inpatient consultation.
- Training in scoring diagnostic questionnaires with applied introduction to case conceptualization, psychometrics and psychopathology.
- Accompanying attending psychologists to multidisciplinary rounds which may include pain rounds, psychosocial rounds and patient care conferences.
- Gaining an applied experience in clinical research which may include observations of participants being enrolled onto clinical trials, completion of research questionnaires, diagnostic imaging and more.
- Attendance at hospital-based rounds which may include Psychology rounds, Cancer Prevention and Control rounds, Grand Rounds, Tumor Board or other on-campus meetings that relate to pediatric psychology.
