Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Shared Resource

Richard A. Ashmun, PhD, Director
The Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Shared Resource provides investigators with access to state-of-the-art equipment and expertise in all aspects of flow cytometry and cell sorting for the analysis and separation of cell populations stained with fluorescent compounds. The facility is available to all investigators on a first-come, first-served basis.

The facility’s instrumentation includes nine BD Biosciences flow cytometers, including five benchtop flow cytometer analyzers (three 4-color FACS Caliburs and two LSR IIs), and four high-speed cell sorters (two 12-color FACS Vantage/DiVa sorters and two FACS Aria sorters), and two Miltenyi Biotec AutoMACS magnetic cell separators. Experienced personnel operate all of the instruments; investigators may obtain access to run the flow cytometry analyzers on an individual basis. Two experienced senior technologists are available to perform sample preparation and staining when required, and we provide a wide variety of monoclonal antibody reagents and fluorescent dyes for cell labeling.

The facility is equipped with computer workstations that can be used by investigators for detailed analysis of flow cytometry data. The facility’s director and assistant director are available for consultation on experimental design, interpretation of data, and preparation of publication-quality presentations of flow cytometry results.
